INTERVIEW

1. Can I get a short backstory on the band(Biography)?

The band was set up in 2007, from an idea of Martino, Marco and Stefano. We already played together with other guys and after different changes, in 2010 Simone, Stefano’s brother, joined the band. In 2011 the band has been completed with Tony (the singer). After that we decided to begin to wrote new songs that compose the album.

2. What lyrical theme does Roots Of Pain use in their music? And what message do you guys want to send?

Countdown to armageddon talks about  the prophecy and how this prophecy cauterized the problem of this society and how this problem bring us to the decency. “Countdown To Armageddon” is a concept album, inspired by the Mayan prophecy. It analyzes the influences that this prophecy played in the history until today, assuming also a possible outcome.

INTERVIEW

1.Can i get a backstory on the band/ band biography?

Thorngoth was founded in 2003. We’ve released four full length albums so far. In our early days we played a modern style of raw Black Metal. Since our third album “Leere” we changed our style and opened it for influences of other extreme metal genres like Doom or Death Metal. With our fourth album SCHWARZ-KARG-KALT we’ve released the best produced album so far. Since 2005 we played some live shows, mainly in Germany and Austria.

2. What lyrical theme do you guys use in your music? What message do you want to send?

In our current album we wrote about the universe and how it could possible “end” in a few billion years. Since the “Leere” album all our lyrics are written in German, because it fits better to our style. On the “Leere” album we wrote about physical and emotional emptiness (Leere means emptiness in German). Our aim is to deliver some food for thoughts to the listeners.

INTERVIEW

1.Can i get a backstory on the band/ band biography?

starting as a three piece acoustic act James, chez and Sime were playing local haunts armed with an arsenal of classic grunge and rock covers, this led very quickly to demands for them to play full gigs their vocal and guitar harmonies hitting home from the outset, forming a band and playing the covers to ever increasing audiences wasn’t enough there were songs brewing and the time was right to unleash them. After trialing drummers and bass players the threesome were adamant that the lineup had to be perfect before their own songs hit the road and at the end of 2010 Sev the Beardy bass player joined the ranks followed shortly by Mark on drums and occasional cello . The songwriting started again in ernest flowing forth from a backlog of experiences that each member had lived through , with the new songs RESIN was reborn and hit the road quickly getting picked up for radio play festival slots and main support slots for established artists.

2. What lyrical theme do you guys use in your music? What message do you want to send?

everything we all feel, the anguish of loss the hopelessness felt at times for different reasons , addiction and the need to please our fellow man and be accepted in society, on first listen i guess the songs may appear sad and depressing but once you get into the lyrics you realise on the whole the message is kind of " keep going, deal with it , you're better than that " sad songs maybe  but with a feeling of underlying hope

INTERVIEW

1.Can i get a backstory on the band/ band biography?

Sesar - Back in 2008, I went to a show featuring several local bands and it was Cold Blue Mountain's first show. Back then, it was Daniel (drums), Will (guitar), and former bass player Zach Ahern. I remember people's jaws were down to the ground because no one knew what to expect. The songs were heavy, thoughtful, and seamlessly transitioned into one another at such mid tempo marching-like pace. It was hard to not bob your head to it. I immediately contacted them trying to slither my way into their band, but they were pretty set on doing the three piece. Cut to about 8 months later, Will drunkenly asks me to join the band to do vocals and second guitar, and thus the 2nd incarnation of the band was born. We played shows as quartet, and I did vocals on some shows, but I was reluctant to add vocals to what I thought were songs that could hold their own as instrumental songs. About a year later Brandon joins the band for vocals and samples, and again we changed. Immediately the framework and work ethic of the band was transformed by Brandon's motivated style, and we go into the studio right away in the summer of 2011. During that time Zach decided to move to Sacramento after we were done recording. This led us to seek out the services of Adrian Hammons, formerly of The Makai and Red Giant (both former bands of Brandon’s and mine). It's the current incarnation of band, and seems to be the one that has manifested and created more music at higher rate.

2. What lyrical theme do you guys use in your music? What message do you want to send?

Sesar - Brandon takes care of all the lyrical and vocal content, from which he had to derive ideas from his own interpretation, since there wasn't a unifying theme or a rhyme or reason to why the songs were titled that way. The new album will be a concept/themed album that I brought to Brandon as a way to keep things a little more fluid and organic for his lyrical content. Overall, I don't think that we set out to send a message per se, but we are serious about the music we play, how we play it, and how we create it. And Brandon's lyrics seem to reflect a very serious, yet thoughtful flow to them as a way to compliment the music.

Brandon – When I joined the band the song titles were given kind of indiscriminately as they were an instrumental band and the titles didn’t matter to the band all that much. I tried to find a somewhat unified theme and there seemed to be a very loose concept of despair and sorrow with a somewhat military tone I guess. Basically I took the names they had and wrote lyrics based on how I felt while listening to each song given what they had previously titled it. There are some songs I had to stretch for, but some I am very proud of lyric wise that I wouldn’t have chosen as a subject. I don’t really have a message to send, I like to tell stories and through music I’ve been given a great outlet for it. The new album is a story. I had been talking to the guys since we started about doing a unified concept for the next album and maybe a story that would go through the album. When we first started writing new material Sesar came to my house with a title that he wanted to use either for a song or album title. I liked his enthusiasm for it and we started brainstorming on a story. We lined out the idea behind 7 songs that would tell the story, and began writing. I don’t want to go into what the new one is going to be about but I feel it is a nice evolutionary step for us as a band and our writing process.

Dead Silence Hides My Cries - The Symphony of Hope 2013 Cd Review

I started off by listening to the first release by Dead Silence Hides My Cries by the name of “The Wretched Symphony [Expanded Edition]” to get ready to review this new album. Meowmix turned me onto this band since I had never heard of them before and this was a very pleasant surprise.  The Wretched Symphony is very symphonic and has some nice electronic elements that don’t feel forced or over the top its all a nice fit.  If I had to specify a genre I feel like they would be symphonic metal core because of some cleans and almost spoken word thrown into the mix leading in to harsh growls. There were a few tracks that really stood out “Everyone Burns in Hell” and “The Taste of Revenge” are 2 very good tracks that you will find on the regular version of the CD, however I did like their cover of Katy Perry’s “Futuristic Lover” which has the most cleans than in any other song on the album.
Moving on to the focus of this review over to The Symphony of Hope. It starts off with a cool dubstep sounding track that bleeds into a symphonic breakdown which is pretty cool if you have not heard their music before. The keys are much more apparent on this album. The growls are very brutal, I like how they blend with the electronic symphony in the background makes this album very atmospheric.  I wont lie electronicore (yes I know I made that word up) is one of my favorite styles but the strings make this just that much more special! “Hate Unleashed” is the heavies feeling track on the album with minimal electronics but it carries that heavy sound but comes right back around.
One note is that there are definitely more cleans and catchier hooks on this album it’s a step up from what they started with and I will follow this band in their future endeavors. Another thing is that they need to get recognized for this masterpiece so support them and let your voice be heard.

The Didact (2013) "Bandcamp"

INTERVIEW

1. Can I get a short backstory on the band (Biography)?

We started in 2010 when a couple of guys wanted to make a band that was progressive in more ways than just technically and rhythmically. Means End was meant to explore harmony, melody, and themes beyond conventional progressive metal.

2. What lyrical theme does Means End use in their music? And what message do you guys want to send?

Each song has a very clear and predefined theme. Lyrics are written in complete sentences and although they may be ambiguous from time to time, they’re never intentionally vague. You won’t find any lyrics about falling through dreams, lizards taking over the government, or (a favorite in djent) entering the twin-spectral lattice of my inner void. The themes we touch on are related to things like ontology, epistemology, history of ideas, metaphysics, mathematics, and the sort of thing that generally interest us.

Inget Ep (2013) "Soundcloud"

INTERVIEW

1.Can i get a backstory on the band/ band biography?

1) The band was originally started as a side project called "Conceptions" by Adam Skantze and Vid Dahyia. The Band was disbanded due to the name being already under use. Later that year, Josh approached us saying he had heard the old Conceptions demos and was wandering if we'd like to reform under a new name. From the second of his audition there was an instant chemistry going on in the room and we said we'd be up for it! At this point we were "bassless", so we called upon Kris, being an old friend and tour buddy we knew the dynamic would work! Fortunately, his previous band also happened to split up a month or two before hand so it was ideal for all of us really. Since then, we've put our efforts into creating a powerful unit musically. We spent almost a year and a half writing, reworking and rehearsing for the launch of our new EP titled "INGET". We really wanted to make sure we'd explored every possibility, for every variable, in terms of the production and musicality, before launching it to the public. All the music was written and recorded at Adam's home studio (DeadSurfaceStudios), where he also did all the mixing and mastering for the EP.

2. What lyrical theme do you guys use in your music? What message do you want to send?

2) Lyrically the EP is very open for interpretation but the idea was to try and get people to question some aspect of their humanity. One might describe it as 'exercising your ability as a sentient being'. Which brings us to our EP title, 'INGET' which translates to 'nothing'. It was an appropriate title because a being without these human attributes would NOT be considered to be a sentient one, and therefore would be 'nothing' without it. A massive influence on our lyrical themes and 'catch' lines throughout the EP, came from the once great Christopher Hitchens. A great example where you can see this happening, is the main line in "Systems" - "If you are God reclaim this throne".

INTERVIEW

1.Can I get a backstory on the band/ band biography?

Valfader was born in 2010 at a local drinking establishment in Bath UK. Band members Dean and Gaz (Psycho Jack) decided to form a new band with a more stoner / laid back vibe. Deciding to be a 3 piece all they needed was a bassist. After trying out a few, Matt strolled up and a winning combination of long hair and van ownership clinched him the spot. Since then Valfader got down to writing some tunes – during this time our songs got longer, slower and heavier to a point where all members felt we had found a sound that was ours!

2. What lyrical theme do you guys use in your music? What message do you want to send?

Most of the lyrics are cenetered around the idea of confronting the things in your nature which hold you back or sabotage you, and the euphoria of actually breaking through self restrictive patterns. A lot of the anger in our music and lyrics is related to the frustration of falling back into old habits, or being ruled by fears. We always feel that our songs should tell a ‘story’, that the listener should be taken on a journey. This is probably why our songs are so long, and usually combine some lighter melodic parts with heavier riffs. It is important to us that our songs don’t just sound like a couple of riffs nailed together, but there is a story that conveys a range of conflicting emotions within the song.

INTERVIEW

1.Can i get a backstory on the band/ band biography?

Hailing from Belo Horizonte-MG, Krig, translated, meaning “WAR”, who formed in 2007 by Isaque Soares, who then invited his friend Daniel Corpse to do vocals. Krig could be best described as a technical death metal outfit that has some industrial and thrash influences. Originally started as a project band, it soon developed into something much more. Ended up releasing the album, “Feed me” in that same year. Due to the great feedback from the cd, plans were put forth to include two more members, so they could do concerts. Brutal is one of the words I would use to describe the over all sound. The songs overall are aggressive and fast.

2. What lyrical theme do you guys use in your music? What message do you want to send?

Lyrics deal with social, environmental, and faith issues. The message we want to share is the other side of the history, everyone is following the same road. We choose to go to a different path, the path of hope, faith and love through the God.
